It's all too common to start off with internet marketing lacking any real plan. Internet marketing, people soon find out, has a definite learning curve, no matter what kind of background or experience you may have. The fact is, doing business online is not quite like anything you might have done offline. Offline, when you want to contact someone you either pay them a visit or pick up the phone; on the net, you have to be more subtle and lure visitors to your squeeze page or get them to opt in to your email list. It's absolutely necessary to learn about the different ways to get website traffic if you want to succeed online. For example, there are many ways to advertise online, such as the various pay-per-click services offered by the search engines, but to profit from these you have to take the time to learn how to use them. While it's true that internet marketing uses some of the same underlying strategies as direct marketing, the way it's applied is different in many ways. That's why it's all too common for newcomers to internet marketing to fail when they first start out. People often look at the gigantic scale of the internet and conclude that making money should be easy. It's not quite that easy to sell online, however, and if you want to succeed you have to be willing to put in some effort.
Hype is a very common denominator with so many IM course showing you how to get rich online. That is right - tons of websites filled with hype, and pushing their expensive courses and products to everyone. All this is easily created with tactics: "Buy now before the price increases," large dollar product launches, and fast action bonuses. It's easy to get lost in it all and start believing it. Lots of people will buy only for the bonuses. Then later they realize all wasn't as advertised. If you ever are tempted to buy an IM course - just make sure it intelligently relates to what you do and your business. Swallowing all the hype and trying to convince yourself about it will not do you any good.
Another pitfall that's easy to make when starting out with internet marketing -information overload that comes from getting on lots of internet marketing email lists and getting lots of conflicting information. When this happens, the result is often a feeling of being overwhelmed and not knowing who to trust or what method is best. The emails, sales pitches and opportunities just start accumulating, each one pulling you in a different direction. This makes any kind of real action difficult, as you don't know whose advice to take first.
What you have to do in this case is reduce the number of emails you get by unsubscribing from most of these lists; only keep a couple that you find most informative. What you want to focus on is action, not information. Taking action is the key to gaining more confidence. There will be failures, but soon you'll realize that they were replaced by success.
Before you can find success with IM, you just might have to undo, or unlearn, some things you may think is true. Try to apply the simple strategies that you come across and create some real profits. You could discover this leading you closer to realizing your goals.
